Austin, Texas — Dry, sunny, and unusually warm weather spread across Central and South Texas Friday, delivering springlike conditions along I-35, I-10, and U.S. 281 as afternoon temperatures climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s.
The National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio said high pressure over the region allows for abundant sunshine and light northwest to north winds, creating ideal travel and outdoor conditions heading into the weekend. Afternoon highs range from the mid to upper 70s north of Austin to the lower 80s near San Antonio and along the I-10 corridor.
Drivers along I-35 from Georgetown through Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels encounter dry pavement and excellent visibility throughout the day. Similar conditions extend west along I-10 near Kerrville and east toward Seguin and Gonzales, where temperatures peak near 80 degrees.
Communities enjoying the warmup include Austin, San Antonio, Georgetown, Round Rock, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, and La Grange. With low humidity and light winds, the warmth feels comfortable rather than oppressive, a sharp contrast to recent winter weather farther north.
Forecasters said the pleasant pattern holds through the weekend, with continued dry conditions and mild nights. Overnight lows dip into the 40s and lower 50s, allowing for cool mornings before rapid daytime warming.
Changes arrive late Monday night into Tuesday as rain chances return ahead of the next system. While no severe weather is indicated at this time, showers become more likely across the region before drier and warm conditions return by Wednesday.
For now, the stretch of sunshine and warmth provides one of the most favorable travel and outdoor weekends of the season. Motorists are reminded to stay hydrated during extended outdoor activities and remain alert for increased pedestrian and cyclist traffic taking advantage of the springlike weather across Central Texas corridors.
