Chestertown, Maryland – Powerful northwest winds and dangerous cold are setting up a hazardous stretch of weather across Maryland this weekend, with the Eastern Shore facing the highest impacts from Saturday into early Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a High Wind Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday evening, followed by an Extreme Cold Watch from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, while wind chills may plunge to as low as 10 below zero across parts of the state.

Statewide, the combination of strong winds and bitter cold raises concerns for downed trees, power lines, and scattered power outages. Travel may become difficult, especially on exposed roadways and bridges, and conditions could be dangerous for high-profile vehicles. Emergency officials urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and prepare for possible utility disruptions.

On the Eastern Shore, Kent and Talbot counties face a heightened risk. Chestertown and Easton could see sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with powerful gusts Saturday, followed by rapidly dropping temperatures Saturday night. Prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia without proper protection.

Residents should limit time outdoors, dress in layers including hats and face coverings, and keep phones charged. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as the weekend approaches, with the cold lingering through Sunday morning.
