Charleston, West Virginia – Snowfall spreading across much of West Virginia and nearby states is expected to create hazardous travel conditions Friday, with impacts extending into early Saturday as colder air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from Friday morning through early Saturday for a large portion of West Virginia, southeast Ohio, northeast Kentucky, and parts of southwest Virginia. Snow accumulations will generally range from 1 to 4 inches, with lighter amounts up to 2 inches across northeast Kentucky and southeast Ohio.

Across West Virginia, roads are expected to become slick by midday Friday, with the most significant impacts during the Friday evening commute. Communities including Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Clarksburg, Beckley-area communities, Logan, Williamson, Summersville, and Lewisburg are all included. Bridges and overpasses may ice over quickly as snowfall continues into the evening.

In southeast Ohio, areas such as Athens, Gallipolis, Marietta, Jackson, and Portsmouth could see slippery conditions during both the morning and evening commute. Northeast Kentucky locations including Ashland, Grayson, Olive Hill, and Louisa are also under advisory, with snow creating travel slowdowns on untreated roads.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and avoid sudden braking. Road conditions may remain slick overnight into early Saturday before gradually improving. Additional advisories or updates remain possible as the system moves through the Ohio Valley.
