Hastings, Nebraska – Seasonably warm temperatures and gusty winds are expected today across central Nebraska, impacting travel and outdoor conditions.

High temperatures are forecast to rise into the low to upper 60s, with some locations approaching 70 degrees by this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Hastings. These readings are well above early February averages and will be accompanied by breezy northwest winds.

Wind speeds are expected to range from 10 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching between 25 and 30 mph at times. The strongest gusts are likely during the afternoon hours, particularly in open areas and along major travel routes such as Interstate 80, U.S. Highway 281, and U.S. Highway 6.

Forecasters say sunny skies will dominate today, allowing temperatures to warm quickly despite the persistent wind. Motorists traveling high-profile vehicles along east-west roadways may experience brief handling difficulties due to crosswinds.

Conditions are expected to change Friday as a cold front moves through the region. Skies will turn partly cloudy, and highs will cool into the mid-40s to upper 50s. Winds will remain breezy, though gusts are forecast to be slightly lower than Thursday, generally between 20 and 25 mph.

By Saturday, partly cloudy skies return with highs ranging from the low 50s to low 60s. South winds of 10 to 20 mph are expected, with gusts once again approaching 30 mph in some areas.

The warm and windy conditions today may be most noticeable for commuters, students, and outdoor workers traveling during peak afternoon hours. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and remain cautious while driving in gusty conditions.

No precipitation or hazardous weather alerts are currently in effect, but weather conditions are expected to remain active through the weekend.
