State College, Pennsylvania – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Cambria and Somerset counties as snow, gusty winds, and dangerously cold wind chills threaten travel from Friday morning through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are possible across the region, with 6 inches or more likely along higher ridges. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour, increasing the risk of blowing and drifting snow.
Forecasters warn that roads may become slippery, with hazardous conditions expected to worsen during the Friday evening commute. Reduced visibility and drifting snow could make travel difficult, particularly in elevated and exposed areas.
Gusty winds may also bring down tree branches, creating additional hazards for drivers and increasing the risk of localized power disruptions. Officials urge residents to use caution near wooded roadways and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions.
In addition to snow and wind, bitter cold air will move into the region behind the system. Wind chills are expected to approach 20 degrees below zero Friday night into Saturday morning, posing a serious risk of frostbite for anyone outdoors without proper protection.
Residents are encouraged to delay travel if possible, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and closely monitor forecast updates as the storm approaches.
