Birmingham, Alabama – Cool temperatures will dominate Central Alabama today before a steady warming trend begins Friday, improving conditions for travel along major routes including I-65, I-20, and I-59.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, highs today are expected to remain in the lower to mid-40s, with mostly dry conditions across the region. Northwest winds of 5 to 10 mph, with occasional gusts up to 20 to 25 mph, may add a slight chill during the afternoon, particularly on exposed roadways and elevated bridges.

Forecasters say a warming trend will begin Friday, with daytime highs climbing into the upper 50s to lower 60s across much of Central Alabama. The warming will continue through the weekend, with temperatures steadily rising each day under dry weather conditions.

By Sunday and Monday, highs are forecast to reach the upper 60s to lower 70s, including around 70 degrees in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Auburn. Several locations could see highs in the low to mid-70s by early next week, signaling a notable shift from the cooler conditions experienced earlier this week.

The National Weather Service notes that dry weather is expected to persist through the beginning of next week, which should keep travel conditions favorable along I-20 from Birmingham to Anniston and I-65 from Cullman through Montgomery. Rain chances are forecast to return Tuesday night, marking the next opportunity for widespread precipitation.

Overnight lows tonight will drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s, before moderating into the 40s and 50s by the weekend as warmer air settles in.

For commuters, students, and outdoor workers, today will feel noticeably cooler, but the upcoming warm-up should provide more comfortable conditions heading into the new week.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes as rain chances increase again next week.
