Jackson, Mississippi – A warming trend is expected to take hold across central Mississippi after one more night of freezing temperatures, with some areas reaching the 70s by Sunday.
According to a Facebook update from the National Weather Service office in Jackson, temperatures will rebound quickly after tonight’s widespread freeze. Above-normal highs are expected by the weekend and will continue into next week, marking a notable shift from recent cold conditions.
Forecast trends show overnight lows dipping to freezing levels tonight before daytime temperatures climb steadily each day. Highs are expected to reach the upper 50s and 60s by Saturday, with some locations warming into the low 70s by Sunday. The warming pattern is expected to persist into next week, with continued above-normal temperatures across much of the region.
The temperature change will be felt along major travel corridors including Interstate 55, Interstate 20, U.S. 49, Interstate 220, and the Natchez Trace Parkway. While no hazardous weather is anticipated, the rapid swing from cold mornings to warm afternoons may catch some commuters off guard.
The National Weather Service also highlighted a broader 6- to 10-day temperature outlook showing a high probability of above-normal temperatures across much of the central and southern United States, including Mississippi. This supports confidence that the warmer pattern will last beyond the weekend.
Residents are encouraged to remain mindful of the early-morning cold before warmer afternoons arrive, particularly students and young workers commuting during pre-dawn hours. Those with cold-sensitive plants or outdoor plumbing should continue protective measures through tonight.
No rain or severe weather threats were highlighted in the update. Forecast details may change as the warming trend becomes more established.
