Fort Wayne, Indiana – Drivers across northern Indiana should be prepared for slick travel at times through the end of the workweek as multiple rounds of light snow move through the region, with minor accumulations and pockets of freezing drizzle possible.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, mostly cloudy skies persist tonight with a few lingering flurries or light snow showers. More organized periods of light snow develop Thursday afternoon and again late Thursday night into Friday morning. Snowfall totals are expected to remain modest, generally a half inch or less in most areas, though some locations could see closer to one inch where snow bands linger.
Cities including South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and Angola may experience brief reductions in visibility during snow showers. Light freezing drizzle is also possible Thursday night and again Friday, which could create slick spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, particularly during the early morning commute hours.
Temperatures hover in the 20s and low 30s through Friday, limiting melting and allowing light snow to accumulate on colder surfaces. Winds increase Friday, pushing wind chills into the single digits and teens by Friday night as colder air settles in for the weekend.
While significant impacts are not expected, motorists are urged to slow down during snow showers, allow extra travel time, and stay alert for changing road conditions. Temperatures are expected to moderate again early next week, but additional updates may be issued if snow or icing potential increases.
