St. Louis, Missouri – Drivers traveling through west St. Louis County should prepare for significant overnight traffic disruptions later this week as lane closures and a full roadway shutdown affect I-270 near I-64 during critical overnight hours.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, warmer-than-expected weather has allowed crews to accelerate planned traffic shifts and demolition work along northbound I-270. Beginning Thursday night, up to two additional northbound lanes will be closed on I-270 near I-64 between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. The same lane restrictions will repeat Friday night during the same overnight window.

In addition to the lane reductions, Conway Road beneath I-270 will be fully closed starting at 9 p.m. Friday night and will remain closed until 5 a.m. Monday morning. Crews will use this extended closure to demolish the bridge structure overhead, a process that requires all traffic to be kept well clear of the work zone for safety reasons.

Motorists traveling through the I-270 and I-64 interchange should expect reduced speeds, sudden lane shifts, and potential delays overnight, especially during late evening and early morning travel. Detours will be posted, but drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes in advance and allow extra time if travel cannot be avoided.

Commercial drivers and emergency responders are advised to account for the extended Conway Road closure, which may affect north-south connectivity in the area through the weekend. Local access will be limited while demolition work is underway.

MoDOT urges drivers to slow down, watch for crews and equipment, and remain alert in active work zones. Additional traffic changes are possible if work progresses faster than expected. Drivers should monitor MoDOT alerts for updates as overnight construction continues through Friday night.
