Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota — Light snow and freezing drizzle are expected during the next three mornings across parts of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, potentially creating slick travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities.
Forecasters say Wednesday morning brings the first round, with flurries and areas of freezing drizzle possible across central and eastern Minnesota. While snowfall amounts will be light, even small amounts of freezing drizzle can create patchy ice on untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots, especially during early commute hours.
On Thursday morning, the focus shifts west, with a chance of light snow across western Wisconsin and lingering icy spots possible in shaded or untreated areas. Friday morning may bring another round of light wintry mix in western Wisconsin, accompanied by breezy conditions, which could further reduce travel comfort.
Daytime temperatures will remain below normal midweek, with highs generally ranging from the upper teens to mid-20s on Wednesday, then moderating into the 30s and lower 40s by Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows will dip into the teens and single digits, supporting refreezing each night.
Despite the short-term wintry hazards, a significant warmup is expected heading into the weekend and early next week. Saturday and Sunday will be the warmest days in southwest Minnesota, where highs could reach the upper 30s to near 40 degrees, helping melt lingering snow and ice.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that precipitation amounts will be light, but timing during early morning hours increases the risk for isolated slick spots, particularly for commuters, students, and early-shift workers traveling along regional highways and local roads.
