Marquette, Michigan — Light lake-effect snow showers will continue across parts of the Upper Peninsula Wednesday morning, followed by a brief midweek warmup before colder, windier conditions return Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Marquette.

Forecasters report that northwest wind snowbelts will see a few light snow showers early today, with minimal additional accumulation expected. Travel impacts this morning should be limited, though brief visibility reductions are possible along U.S. 41, M-28, and nearby local roads, especially closer to Lake Superior.

Temperatures will gradually moderate through midweek. Highs Wednesday will range from the upper teens to lower 20s, with Thursday highs climbing into the mid-20s to mid-30s, especially across the western Upper Peninsula. This warmer air may briefly improve travel and outdoor conditions.

However, the quiet stretch will be short-lived. The National Weather Service indicates two rounds of light snow are expected from Thursday into Friday morning as weather systems move through the region. While accumulations are expected to remain generally light, snow-covered roads could redevelop during overnight and early morning periods.

A strong cold front is forecast to move through on Friday, bringing falling temperatures, gusty winds, and an increased risk of blowing snow, particularly near Lake Superior. These conditions could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions, especially on exposed stretches of US-41, M-28, and higher-elevation roadways.

By Friday afternoon, temperatures will trend downward into the 20s, with wind chills making it feel colder. Areas closer to the lakeshore may experience the most noticeable impacts from wind-driven snow.

For commuters, truck drivers, and outdoor workers, Friday presents the highest risk for travel disruptions, even if snowfall totals remain modest. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and stay alert for sudden visibility changes.

Looking ahead, colder conditions are expected to linger into the weekend, with additional snow chances possible. Residents should continue monitoring updates from weather.gov/mqt as timing and impacts are refined.
