Naperville, IL – A 19-year-old Naperville man was arrested Monday after allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle and later resisting arrest, according to the Naperville Police Department.
The incident began around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, when officers detected a stolen 2007 Honda Civic through license plate reader technology. The vehicle, reported stolen the previous day from the 900 block of N. Brainard Street, was tracked by an Illinois State Police trooper into Naperville, where officers attempted a stop in the 800 block of N. Brainard Street. Police say the driver fled on foot before being apprehended after a short pursuit.
According to police, the suspect — identified as Ethan M. Christiansen, 19, of Naperville — allegedly resisted and battered an officer during the arrest. Investigators also reportedly found a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine and pills testing positive for methamphetamine.
Christiansen faces several felony charges, including aggravated battery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.
Police say they continue to investigate the series of vehicle burglaries that preceded the theft.
“This arrest highlights the effectiveness of strong partnerships and technology in keeping our community safe,” said Police Chief Jason Arres, commending officers and state troopers for their coordination during the incident.
Authorities remind the public that all charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
