Pueblo, Colorado –A warming trend is set to bring springlike temperatures to southern Colorado later this week, potentially affecting travel, outdoor activity, and early-season fire concerns along major roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, temperatures will climb steadily beginning Wednesday, with highs reaching the 50s across the eastern plains and 40s in larger valleys. From Thursday through the weekend, daytime highs are expected to rise further into the 60s on the plains and 50s in valley locations, with some areas potentially approaching 70 degrees.

The warmest conditions are forecast near transportation corridors including Interstate 25, U.S. Highway 50, and U.S. Highway 285, which run through Pueblo, Colorado Springs, La Junta, Trinidad, and Alamosa. These routes often see increased traffic during mild winter weekends, particularly as residents take advantage of favorable weather conditions.

Forecasters note that the period will remain mainly dry, reducing the likelihood of precipitation-related travel issues. However, the extended stretch of above-normal temperatures may accelerate snowmelt in higher terrain and contribute to muddy or soft ground conditions in rural areas adjacent to highways.

The National Weather Service also indicated that a brief return to cooler conditions is possible by midweek next week, along with a chance for precipitation, though confidence remains low at this time. No watches or warnings are currently in effect related to the warming trend.

Officials encourage drivers to remain alert for changing road conditions, especially during early morning hours when overnight temperatures may still dip below freezing in sheltered valleys.

The warm spell may be particularly noticeable for students, outdoor workers, and commuters traveling along I-25 during afternoon hours, when temperatures are expected to peak.

This outlook is based on forecast data issued Tuesday afternoon and reflects conditions expected through Sunday across southern Colorado.
