Louisville, Kentucky – Lingering freezing drizzle combined with falling temperatures could lead to slick road conditions across much of central Kentucky later Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Louisville reports that very light freezing drizzle may persist as temperatures drop below freezing, allowing a thin glaze of ice to form on untreated roadways, bridges, and elevated surfaces. While ice accumulation is expected to remain minimal, even a light glaze can create hazardous travel conditions.

Counties included in the statement span a wide portion of central Kentucky, including Hardin, Grayson, Meade, Breckinridge, Ohio, Bullitt, Nelson, Washington, Mercer, Jessamine, Boyle, Garrard, Madison, Taylor, Casey, Lincoln, Logan, Warren, Simpson, Allen, Barren, Monroe, Metcalfe, Adair, Russell, Cumberland, Clinton, and surrounding areas.

Cities potentially affected include Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Shepherdsville, Harrodsburg, Nicholasville, Danville, Richmond, Bowling Green, Glasgow, Campbellsville, Columbia, Jamestown, Burkesville, Russellville, and Scottsville.

Forecasters emphasize that precipitation amounts will be very light, with ice accumulation not expected to exceed a thin glaze. However, isolated slick spots may still develop, particularly on less-traveled roads, overpasses, and sidewalks.

The National Weather Service advises motorists and pedestrians to remain alert for icy patches this evening and into the Wednesday morning commute. Slowing down, allowing extra stopping distance, and using caution on bridges and elevated surfaces can help reduce the risk of accidents.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after temperatures rise, but patchy slick areas may linger until surfaces warm above freezing.
