Middle Atlantic Region — Light precipitation is expected later today across the southern portion of the Middle Atlantic as a low-pressure system moves through the region, according to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center.

Forecasters say precipitation amounts are expected to remain minimal, generally ranging from a few hundredths of an inch up to 0.25 inches. The rainfall is not expected to produce significant hydrologic impacts.

Maps included in the Weather Service’s 72-hour precipitation outlook show the highest totals concentrated across portions of Virginia, Maryland, southern Pennsylvania, and nearby areas, with lighter amounts farther north.

The River Forecast Center emphasized that no river flooding is anticipated with this system, as rainfall totals are forecast to stay well below thresholds that typically cause river rises or flood concerns.

While the precipitation may result in damp roads and brief travel slowdowns, officials say impacts should remain limited due to the light and steady nature of the rainfall.

The Weather Service continues to monitor conditions and will issue updates if forecast rainfall amounts change or if river conditions begin to respond unexpectedly.

For commuters and residents in southern parts of the region, the main impact will be periods of light rain later today, with rivers and streams expected to remain within normal levels.
