Louisville, Kentucky – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midnight EST tonight for portions of south central Indiana and east central to north central Kentucky, where accumulating snow is expected to impact travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, slushy, wet snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are forecast across the advisory area. Snow is expected to fall during the late afternoon and evening hours, coinciding with the Tuesday evening commute.
The advisory includes parts of Washington, Scott, Jefferson, and Clark counties in Indiana, as well as Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Scott, Harrison, Bourbon, and Nicholas counties in Kentucky. Communities affected include Jeffersonville, Scottsburg, Madison, Bedford, Salem, La Grange, New Castle, Paris, Georgetown, Cynthiana, Milton, and Carlisle.
While snowfall totals are not expected to be heavy, the National Weather Service warns that slushy accumulation on roadways may lead to slick and hazardous driving conditions, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. The wet nature of the snow may also reduce traction quickly as temperatures hover near freezing.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling, especially during the late afternoon and evening commute. Pedestrians should also be cautious, as sidewalks, stairs, and driveways may become slippery and increase the risk of falls.
Drivers can monitor road conditions by visiting 511in.org for Indiana travel updates or goky.ky.gov for Kentucky road conditions.
Snow is expected to taper off later tonight, with conditions gradually improving after midnight. No additional winter headlines have been issued at this time, but residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local forecasts for updates.
