Des Moines, Iowa – Cloudy skies and a chance for brief flurries will start the day across parts of Iowa, particularly in western portions of the state, before conditions quiet later this morning.

According to the National Weather Service office in Des Moines, flurries are most likely early Tuesday across western Iowa and are expected to taper off by late morning. No accumulation is anticipated, and travel impacts should remain minimal. Elsewhere across the state, temperatures will be near seasonal levels with generally quiet weather conditions.

Roadways including Interstate 80, Interstate 35, Interstate 29, and US-20 may briefly see flurries early in the day, but pavement impacts are not expected. Visibility reductions, if they occur, should be brief and localized.

Another chance for brief flurries may develop across northwestern Iowa tonight, though again with little to no accumulation expected. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the single digits and teens, typical for early February.

Looking ahead, temperatures trend warmer Wednesday through Friday. Highs Wednesday are expected to reach the 20s and 30s, climbing into the upper 30s to low 50s by Thursday. By Friday, some locations in southwestern Iowa may see highs near 50 degrees.

The National Weather Service notes that Friday will also be breezy statewide, which could make it feel cooler despite the warming temperatures. No significant precipitation is expected during the mid-to-late week warming trend.

This forecast is most relevant for commuters and travelers using the I-80 and I-35 corridors early Tuesday, as well as agricultural and freight traffic planning later-week operations amid improving conditions.

Drivers are encouraged to remain alert for brief early-morning flurries today but can expect improving travel conditions as the day progresses. Continued updates will be provided by the National Weather Service as the warming trend develops.
