Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect today for portions of northern West Virginia, where accumulating snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions through late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh, the advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday until 1 a.m. EST Wednesday. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are forecast across the advisory area, with locally higher amounts possible in the higher terrain of Preston and Tucker counties.

The advisory covers Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties, including communities such as Morgantown, Fairmont, Kingwood, New Martinsville, Bruceton Mills, Terra Alta, Parsons, Davis, Thomas, and Canaan Valley. Snow is expected to increase through the afternoon, with the most impactful snowfall occurring during the Tuesday evening commute.

Forecasters note that untreated roads, bridges, and higher-elevation routes are most likely to become slick as snow accumulates. Travel impacts are expected to include reduced traction, slower travel speeds, and longer stopping distances, particularly in mountainous areas.

The National Weather Service urges motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling and to allow extra time during the evening commute. Road condition updates can be obtained by dialing 511 for the latest state travel information.

Residents are also encouraged to report snowfall or ice accumulations to the National Weather Service Pittsburgh office by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or using @NWSPittsburgh on X.

Snow is expected to taper off late tonight, with conditions gradually improving overnight. However, lingering slick spots may persist into early Wednesday, especially in higher elevations.
