Louisville, Kentucky – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning for portions of southern Indiana and central Kentucky, where snow and a brief period of freezing rain could create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Tuesday until 2 a.m. EST Wednesday. Forecast snowfall totals range from a coating to 1 inch of wet, slushy snow, with a light glaze of ice possible due to brief freezing rain.
The advisory includes areas of south central Indiana—Orange, Crawford, Harrison, Floyd, and Jefferson counties—and east central to north central Kentucky, including Shelby, Franklin, Woodford, Fayette, and Clark counties. Cities within the advisory area include Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort, Shelbyville, Winchester, Versailles, Paoli, New Albany, Corydon, and English.
Snow is expected to develop during the afternoon hours and continue into the evening. Forecasters warn that the late afternoon and evening commute could be affected as slushy snow accumulates on roadways. Brief periods of freezing rain may create isolated icy spots, particularly on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling. Pedestrians should also be alert for slippery conditions on sidewalks, stairs, and driveways, which may increase the risk of slips and falls.
Road condition updates are available via 511 services, including 511in.org for Indiana and goky.ky.gov for Kentucky.
Precipitation is expected to taper off overnight, with conditions gradually improving early Wednesday. However, lingering slick spots may persist into the early morning hours.
