Albany, New York – A weak disturbance is moving across eastern New York this afternoon through tonight, bringing mostly cloudy skies and occasional snow showers that may briefly affect travel along major roadways.

According to the National Weather Service office in Albany, snow showers and flurries are most likely this evening and overnight, particularly across higher elevations north and west of Albany. Lower elevations may see only spotty flurries, with limited impacts overall.

High temperatures today range from the lower 20s to around 30 degrees before falling sharply tonight. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the single digits, allowing any snow showers to briefly stick on untreated surfaces. Accumulation is expected to be light, but slick spots could develop on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.

Roadways including Interstate 90, Interstate 87, Interstate 88, I-890, US-9, and I-84 could see brief reductions in visibility during passing snow showers. The National Weather Service notes that snow activity will be intermittent rather than steady, limiting widespread impacts but still posing localized travel concerns during the evening commute.

Tonight’s snow showers are expected to taper off toward Wednesday morning as the system exits the region. Dry weather returns Wednesday under partly to mostly sunny skies, with high temperatures again ranging from the upper teens to around 30 degrees.

While this is not expected to be a significant winter weather event, drivers are encouraged to remain alert for changing conditions, especially in elevated terrain and during nighttime hours when temperatures fall rapidly.

This forecast may be most relevant for evening commuters, overnight drivers, and early-morning travelers along the Capital Region’s main highway corridors. Additional updates will be issued if snow coverage or impacts increase.
