Parts of the St. Louis region may see brief light snow early Tuesday, though overall impacts are expected to remain minimal as drier and warmer conditions follow later this week.

According to the National Weather Service St. Louis, there is a 20 to 40 percent chance of light snow this morning, mainly across south-central Illinois and portions of the eastern St. Louis metro area. Any snow that develops is expected to be light, with accumulations ranging from a dusting to around one-tenth of an inch in isolated locations.

The best chance for snow will occur before noon, after which conditions are expected to turn mostly dry. Areas along Interstate 64, Interstate 255, Interstate 270, U.S. 50, and nearby roadways may briefly experience reduced traction, particularly on bridges and untreated surfaces during the morning hours.

High temperatures today are forecast to range from the low 30s to near 40 degrees, which should limit snow accumulation and help road conditions improve quickly. Most roadways are expected to remain wet rather than snow-covered.

Beyond today, the National Weather Service reports that the remainder of the week looks dry, with a noticeable warming trend beginning Thursday and continuing into Friday. Highs are expected to climb into the mid-40s to near 60 degrees by Friday, offering a significant improvement over recent colder conditions.

Overnight lows tonight and Wednesday night will still fall into the teens and lower 20s, which could allow for patchy refreeze where moisture lingers. Drivers traveling late at night or early in the morning should remain alert for isolated slick spots.

For commuters, students, and early-morning workers, today’s weather may bring brief winter-like conditions, but widespread travel disruptions are not anticipated.
