Slightly milder but still chilly conditions are expected across eastern Massachusetts on Tuesday, offering a break from recent colder weather while maintaining generally favorable travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service Boston, temperatures today will run warmer than recent days, with highs generally around the freezing mark for much of the region. Many communities along Interstate 93, Interstate 95, Route 3, and the Massachusetts Turnpike are expected to reach the low to mid-30s during the afternoon.
Light northwest winds this morning will gradually shift to the southwest later today, helping support the modest warmup. Despite the temperature increase, dry conditions are expected to continue, reducing the risk of snow- or rain-related travel issues during the daytime commute.
Road conditions are expected to remain dry and clear across much of eastern and central Massachusetts. However, shaded areas and untreated surfaces may remain cold, particularly early in the day before temperatures rise above freezing.
By Tuesday night, colder air will settle back into the region. Overnight lows are forecast to fall back into the teens and single digits, especially across inland areas away from the coast. This sharp temperature drop may allow any residual moisture on roadways to refreeze, particularly on bridges, ramps, and lesser-traveled roads.
Motorists traveling late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning should remain alert for isolated icy patches, even though no precipitation is expected. Coastal areas may remain slightly milder overnight, but inland travel corridors could see more pronounced refreezing.
Overall, Tuesday offers a relatively quiet weather day for commuters, students, and workers across the region. Drivers are encouraged to remain mindful of colder overnight conditions as temperatures fall quickly after sunset.
