Nebraska – Low clouds stretch across the metro this morning, and the air feels damp and cold as traffic builds along I-80 and I-480. While the scene looks quiet now, quick-hitting snow showers remain possible and could briefly change road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, isolated to widely scattered snow showers may develop through today and into the early part of the day ahead. These bursts of snow will be brief, but they may reduce visibility and create slick spots, especially on untreated roads, ramps, and bridges. Areas around Omaha, Bellevue, Council Bluffs, and Carter Lake should stay alert for sudden changes.

Temperatures hover near the upper 20s early, rising into the mid 30s later today. That puts pavement near the freezing mark, increasing the risk for flash freezing if snow falls harder for short periods. Drivers may notice wet roads turning slushy quickly, particularly on secondary streets.

Snow chances fade tonight as clouds linger and lows dip into the mid 20s. Wednesday turns mostly cloudy but calmer, with highs near the upper 30s. Roads improve, though cold air keeps any leftover moisture frozen in shaded areas.

The pattern shifts sharply by Thursday. Sunshine returns, and temperatures surge into the mid 50s, a dramatic change for early February. That mild air sticks around Friday with highs near 50 under sunny skies, melting remaining snowpack and improving travel.

The weekend of Feb. 6–8 stays relatively quiet. Saturday and Sunday trend seasonable, with highs near the upper 40s and partly sunny skies. No significant winter systems are showing up in the short term.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across much of the central Plains late next week. That suggests winter loosens its grip, at least temporarily, across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Slow down during any snow bursts today, watch bridges closely, and enjoy the warming trend ahead. Did conditions change quickly where you’re driving this morning?
