Pennsylvania – Cold air bites early this morning as exhaust hangs over city streets and frozen pavement glints under streetlights. Winter remains firmly in control across eastern Pennsylvania, and conditions are lining up for a tricky stretch of cold, snow chances, and slick travel as the week pushes toward the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures stay well below normal through midweek, with highs struggling to reach the lower 30s and nighttime lows dropping into the teens. Another push of Arctic air settles in Wednesday, tightening its grip through Thursday before moisture creeps back late Friday.

In Philadelphia, today brings partial sunshine and dry conditions, but melting during the afternoon will be brief. Once the sun fades, refreezing accelerates. Flash freezing remains a concern on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks, especially during the evening commute.

A light snow signal appears Tuesday night into early Wednesday, with less than a half inch possible. While totals stay low, even light flakes can reduce visibility and create slick stretches on I-95, I-76, Roosevelt Boulevard, and surface streets. Drivers should slow down and allow extra stopping distance.

By Friday, clouds thicken again as another weak system approaches. Snow chances return late Friday into Friday night, with cold air already in place. Accumulations look light for now, but timing during evening travel raises impact concerns. Conditions stay cold into the weekend, with Saturday remaining dry but sharply chilly.

Looking ahead, longer-range outlooks suggest a shift toward milder temperatures late next week as above-normal warmth builds west of the Appalachians. For now, winter hazards linger. Heading out Friday night or early Saturday? Share what conditions you’re seeing where you are.
