Indianapolis, Indiana – A shift toward a wetter, more springlike weather pattern is expected across Indiana beginning Tuesday, February 10, as the 8–14-day outlook points to above-average precipitation and temperatures running warmer than typical mid-February levels through Monday, February 16. The pattern favors rain over snow and raises concerns for repeated wet periods and water-related travel issues.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, much of the Midwest, including Indiana, is favored to see above-average precipitation during the February 10–16 window. Temperatures are also expected to trend above normal, keeping daytime highs well above freezing and limiting the threat for widespread winter weather.

Central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Carmel, and Greenwood, may see multiple rounds of rain during the period. With ground conditions still slow to absorb moisture this time of year, heavier rainfall could lead to ponding on roadways and minor flooding in low-lying and urban areas. Gusty winds may accompany stronger systems at times, especially as fronts move through.

Northern Indiana, including Fort Wayne, Kokomo, and South Bend, could see added runoff as milder air contributes to snowmelt farther north. Southern Indiana, including Bloomington, Columbus, and Evansville, is also expected to remain mild and wet, reinforcing the springlike feel statewide.

Drivers should use caution during periods of heavy rain, particularly at night when visibility is reduced and standing water is harder to see. Residents are encouraged to monitor river and stream levels and stay alert for local advisories.

With the mild, rainy pattern expected to persist through Monday, February 16, additional flood advisories or hydrologic alerts may be issued as confidence increases heading into next week.
