Raleigh, North Carolina – A more winterlike pattern is expected to return across North Carolina beginning Tuesday, February 10, as the 8–14 day outlook signals increasing precipitation and temperatures settling back near seasonal norms through Monday, February 16. While not all areas will see snow, the setup raises the potential for wintry precipitation, especially across higher elevations and interior sections of the state.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, above-average precipitation is favored across parts of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic during the February 10–16 period, including North Carolina. At the same time, temperatures are projected to trend closer to normal after recent warmth, with overnight lows frequently near or below freezing in many locations.

The greatest snow potential remains across the North Carolina mountains, where colder air is more likely to hold. Areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway and higher elevations of western North Carolina could see periods of accumulating snow if systems track favorably. The foothills and Piedmont, including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh, may see occasional wintry mixes or light snow during overnight and early morning hours.

In eastern North Carolina and along the coast, including Fayetteville, Greenville, and Wilmington, temperatures may hover just above freezing at times, making cold rain more likely. However, brief wintry precipitation cannot be ruled out if colder air presses farther south.

Travel impacts could develop quickly during nighttime and early morning hours, particularly in the mountains and inland areas where roads may become slick. NCDOT crews may need to respond repeatedly if precipitation arrives in waves.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates, prepare for changing road conditions, and stay alert for advisories. With the colder, wetter pattern expected to persist through Monday, February 16, additional alerts may be issued as confidence increases heading into next week.
