Amarillo, Texas – A cold front moving through the Texas Panhandle will bring cooler and breezy conditions overnight, with gusty north winds impacting travel and outdoor conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the cold front is approaching the region and will push through overnight, shifting winds to the north at 15 to 20 mph, with occasional gusts exceeding 30 mph. These winds will combine with cooler air to produce wind chill values 5 to 10 degrees colder than the actual air temperature.

Overnight low temperatures are expected to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s across much of the Panhandle. Amarillo, Borger, Pampa and surrounding communities can expect lows near freezing, while some northern locations may dip into the upper 20s by early Tuesday morning.

The strongest wind impacts are expected along major travel corridors including I-40, US-287, US-60 and SH-136, where crosswinds may affect high-profile vehicles overnight. Drivers traveling late Monday night or early Tuesday should be prepared for sudden gusts, especially in open and elevated areas.

While no precipitation is expected with this front, the combination of cold air and strong winds may make conditions feel uncomfortable for those outdoors. Loose objects should be secured, and caution is advised for overnight travel.

The National Weather Service notes that breezy conditions may persist into Tuesday morning before gradually diminishing later in the day. Temperatures will remain cooler behind the front, though no significant winter weather hazards are anticipated at this time.

For commuters, students and early-morning workers, the cold start Tuesday may be the most noticeable impact, particularly during pre-dawn hours when wind chills are lowest.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates as the front completes its passage across the region.
