Champaign, Illinois – Light snow showers may drift across central Illinois late tonight into Tuesday, with slick road conditions possible in some areas despite little to no accumulation.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Central Illinois, most locations are forecast to see little if any measurable snow overnight. However, forecasters note a 10% to 25% chance of a narrow band producing more than 1 inch of snow, mainly east of Interstate 57 on Tuesday.

Snow showers are expected to be scattered and brief, but where snowfall does occur, untreated roads could become slick. The Weather Service warned that impacts are most likely during late-night and early-morning travel hours, when road temperatures may be colder.

Areas potentially affected include portions of the Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, Bloomington, and Peoria regions. Motorists traveling along Interstate 55, Interstate 57, Interstate 72, Interstate 74, and U.S. Route 36 may encounter isolated slick spots, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.

Timing outlined by the Weather Service places snow showers late tonight across central Illinois, shifting eastward into east-central Illinois on Tuesday. Visibility reductions are expected to be minor, but brief bursts of snow could still surprise drivers.

Officials advise travelers to use caution if driving during periods of snow, slow down on untreated roadways, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. While widespread disruptions are not expected, even light snowfall can lead to localized hazards.

Students, commuters, and overnight workers traveling early Tuesday should allow extra time and monitor local conditions, especially east of I-57 where accumulation chances are slightly higher.

Residents are encouraged to follow official National Weather Service updates for the latest information as conditions evolve.
