Omaha, Nebraska – Patchy fog developing across portions of central and eastern Nebraska early Monday is creating hazardous travel conditions, with visibility dropping rapidly in some areas during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, fog has formed across parts of eastern Nebraska, with visibility reduced to as low as one-quarter mile at times. The fog is expected to gradually dissipate by late morning, around 10 to 11 a.m., but conditions may change quickly before then.

In addition to reduced visibility, forecasters note that a few slick spots could develop, especially in areas where temperatures hover near or below freezing. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roadways are most susceptible to slick conditions.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 80 through Omaha and Lincoln, Interstate 680, US-75, US-275, US-30, and surrounding state highways should be prepared for sudden drops in visibility. Fog may be locally dense, meaning conditions can worsen rapidly over short distances.

The National Weather Service advises motorists to use low-beam headlights, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. High beams can reduce visibility in fog and should be avoided. Slowing down and remaining alert for stopped or slow-moving vehicles is strongly recommended.

While the fog is expected to be patchy rather than widespread, areas most likely to be affected include central into eastern Nebraska, particularly during the early morning hours. As temperatures rise later in the morning, visibility should improve and slick spots should diminish.

Early-shift workers, students, and long-distance commuters are most likely to be impacted by the timing of the fog. Even after visibility improves, shaded areas may remain damp or slick for a short time.

Residents are encouraged to check local road conditions before traveling and remain cautious until fog fully clears.
