Lubbock, Texas – A brief cool down is expected across the South Plains and Rolling Plains midweek as two cold fronts move through the region, followed by a rapid return to well-above-normal temperatures by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, temperatures will dip modestly Tuesday and Wednesday as cold fronts push south through the area. Despite the change, forecasters emphasize that the cooler conditions will be short-lived.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach the lower 60s in Lubbock and Plainview, with readings falling into the low to mid-50s on Wednesday behind the second front. Locations such as Brownfield, Friona, and Childress will see similar trends, with highs generally remaining in the 50s to low 60s.

Motorists traveling along I-27, US-84, US-62, and US-83 may notice stronger northerly winds accompanying the fronts, particularly Wednesday, though no hazardous travel conditions were noted. Winds are expected to range from 10 to 20 mph at times.

By Thursday, temperatures begin a steady rebound as sunshine returns and winds diminish. Highs are forecast to climb back into the mid-60s Thursday, followed by upper 60s to low 70s Friday.

The warming trend peaks over the weekend, when temperatures are expected to run 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages. Saturday highs are forecast near 70 degrees in Lubbock, with mid-70s possible farther south and west, including areas near Aspermont and Childress.

Early-shift workers, outdoor crews, and commuters may notice the temperature swings most clearly during morning hours midweek, followed by significantly milder conditions by Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of daily temperature changes and plan accordingly for outdoor activities as winterlike mornings give way to springlike afternoons.
