Nebraska – Headlights blur into a gray veil this morning as fog settles across the metro, softening skylines and swallowing taillights along the Missouri River. The air feels damp and cold, and visibility changes block by block. For early drivers, conditions feel uncertain and demand patience.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, patchy fog developed across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa early today. Visibility may briefly drop below one-half mile, with a few locations seeing quarter-mile visibility. The fog is most likely near and west of a Norfolk-to-Lincoln line, including the Omaha area.
In Omaha and Carter Lake, temperatures hover near 30 degrees. Calm winds allow fog to linger through the morning hours. Travel along I-80, I-480, and surface streets near the river may slow as visibility fluctuates. Drivers should use low-beam headlights and be prepared for sudden changes.
Later tonight brings a different concern. According to the National Weather Service, a slight chance of drizzle, snow, or freezing rain develops late, mainly before dawn Tuesday. Any precipitation stays light, but cold pavement increases the risk of slick spots on bridges and untreated roads.
Tuesday remains mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-30s. Another light wintry mix is possible Tuesday night, again with minimal accumulation. Even so, repeated freeze-thaw cycles raise the risk of flash freezing, especially during early morning travel.
By Wednesday, conditions turn quieter. Mostly cloudy skies continue, with highs near the upper 30s. A warming trend builds late week. Thursday brings sunshine and highs near the low 50s, offering a noticeable break from February chill. Friday and the Feb 6–8 weekend trend mild for this time of year, with highs climbing into the upper 40s and low 50s.
For now, slow down in fog, watch bridges late tonight, and stay alert for changing conditions. Seeing thick fog where you are this morning?
