Michigan — Breath hangs in the air across Southeast Michigan this morning as fog and mist blur streetlights and frost grips every surface.

Dangerous cold settles over the Detroit metro early today, with temperatures near 11 degrees and wind chills close to zero. Light snow develops by mid-morning, bringing slick conditions to untreated roads and sidewalks. Visibility remains reduced at times, especially near the river and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, snow chances increase through late morning and early afternoon, with light accumulations possible. Highs struggle to reach the mid-20s. Even minor snowfall can create problems when pavement temperatures stay this cold. Drivers should slow down and leave extra space, especially on I-75, I-94, and surface streets.

Tonight stays cold, though winds ease slightly. Temperatures dip into the mid-teens, allowing any moisture to refreeze. Flash freezing remains a concern after sunset, particularly in parking lots and shaded residential roads.

Tuesday offers little relief. Clouds linger, and highs reach the upper 20s. Flurries may redevelop during the afternoon, keeping roads damp and slick. By Tuesday night, skies partially clear and temperatures fall into the single digits, reinforcing the deep freeze.

Midweek turns quieter but colder. Wednesday stays mostly sunny with highs near 22. Thursday remains dry during the day, but clouds thicken late. Snow becomes likely Thursday night into Friday, with temperatures hovering near freezing. That setup raises concerns for accumulating snow and hazardous travel heading toward the Feb 6–8 weekend.

Beyond that, a gradual warming trend appears late next week, hinting at a break from February’s harsh grip. Until then, winter stays firmly in control.
