Columbus, Ohio – A blast of Arctic air combined with gusty winds is expected to bring a prolonged stretch of dangerous cold across western, central, and southern Ohio beginning Saturday, Feb. 8, creating hazardous conditions for travel and outdoor activity.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop sharply below seasonal averages from Feb. 8 through Tuesday, Feb. 11, with steady winds driving wind chill values into subzero territory at times. The cold will be widespread, affecting major population centers and rural areas alike, with the harshest conditions expected overnight and during early morning hours.

In central Ohio, including Columbus and surrounding Franklin County, wind chills could fall below zero during the coldest periods, making prolonged exposure unsafe. Western Ohio cities such as Dayton and Springfield may also see biting winds that worsen cold stress, while southern Ohio, including Cincinnati and communities along the Ohio River, faces increased risk for icy patches on untreated roads during overnight lows.

State and local officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, dress in multiple layers that block wind, and ensure pets are kept inside. Drivers are advised to prepare for cold-related vehicle issues and keep emergency kits on hand.

The cold pattern is expected to relax after Feb. 11, though additional wind chill advisories may be issued as the event approaches.
