Miami, Florida – A sharp blast of cold air will push deep into inland South Florida tonight, bringing freezing temperatures and unusually cold wind chills that threaten crops, pets, and exposed plumbing before sunrise Monday. Temperatures will drop quickly after sunset, creating conditions rarely seen this far south.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday through 9 a.m. Monday for inland Broward, inland Miami-Dade, inland Palm Beach County, Glades, Hendry, and inland Collier County. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Monday, with wind chills expected to fall as low as 22 degrees.
Communities including The Acreage, Belle Glade, Clewiston, Immokalee, Felda, Florida City, Redland, Royal Palm Beach, Wellington, and areas near Shark Valley could see temperatures dip to around 28 degrees overnight. Agricultural areas across Glades and Hendry counties face an elevated risk of crop damage, while unprotected outdoor pipes may freeze in colder inland locations.
Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, protect sensitive plants, and ensure outdoor animals have warm shelter and unfrozen water. Dress in layers if heading outside and check on elderly neighbors or those without reliable heat. Anyone without adequate heating or shelter can call 211 for assistance. Cold conditions are expected to ease after sunrise Monday, but additional advisories could follow if temperatures remain slow to recover.
