Minneapolis, Minnesota – Light snow will continue across the Twin Cities and much of central and western Minnesota today, with brief travel impacts expected through the afternoon.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service Twin Cities, several hours of light snow will result in widespread totals of 1 to 2 inches across the region. The steadiest snowfall occurred before daybreak, with lighter snow and occasional flurries continuing into the early afternoon hours.
Forecasters said winds will become breezy at times, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility, especially in open and rural areas of western Minnesota. While snowfall rates are expected to remain light, visibility reductions may briefly affect drivers along major corridors such as Interstate 94, Interstate 35, Interstate 494, and U.S. Highway 52.
Snow is expected to taper off from west to east during the afternoon and early evening hours, gradually improving road conditions. No significant additional accumulation is expected after snowfall ends.
The National Weather Service emphasized that while this is not a major winter storm, the combination of light snow and gusty winds can still create localized travel challenges, particularly during periods of blowing snow.
For commuters, students, and weekend travelers, extra caution is advised during the first half of the day. Allowing additional travel time and remaining alert for changing visibility conditions is recommended.
Temperatures will remain cold enough for snow to persist, but improving conditions are expected as snowfall diminishes later today. No major winter systems are currently forecast immediately following this event.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local road conditions and follow updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve across the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.
