Corpus Christi, Texas – A Freeze Warning remains in effect across inland portions of South Texas through 9 a.m. Sunday, as temperatures drop to levels capable of causing damage to exposed vegetation and plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, lows across the Inland Coastal Plains and Brush Country are expected to fall to around 24 degrees, with wind chill values as low as 18 degrees in some locations. Coastal areas are expected to remain slightly warmer, but inland communities face the highest risk of freezing conditions.

The warning covers areas away from the immediate coastline, including communities along Interstate 37, U.S. Highway 77, U.S. Highway 181, and Interstate 69E. While roads are expected to remain dry, the cold poses hazards for early-morning travelers, outdoor workers, and anyone without adequate cold-weather protection.

A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect for parts of northern Brush Country and the Victoria Crossroads, where similar cold conditions are expected but with slightly less severity. Officials emphasize that repeated cold exposure increases the risk of damage, even for areas that may have avoided impacts during previous cold mornings.

The National Weather Service urges residents to protect the four Ps: people, pets, plants, and pipes. Sensitive plants should be covered or brought indoors, pets should be provided with warm shelter, and exposed pipes should be insulated or allowed to drip to prevent freezing.

Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy today, with highs recovering into the 50s and lower 60s this afternoon. A warming trend will continue into early next week, with temperatures climbing into the 70s by midweek following the passage of another cold front.

The freeze warning is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, agricultural workers, and residents in rural inland areas across South Texas.
