Amarillo, Texas – Warm temperatures are building across the Texas Panhandle today, with highs climbing into the 60s ahead of a cold front expected Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, above-normal temperatures will continue through Monday, providing a brief stretch of mild and pleasant weather across the region. Afternoon highs today are forecast to reach the lower to mid-60s, with similar warmth returning Monday before conditions change.

The warm-up will be most noticeable during the afternoon hours, especially along major travel corridors including Interstate 40, U.S. Highway 287, and Interstate 27, where dry conditions and sunshine are expected. No precipitation or travel disruptions are anticipated during the warm period.

Forecasters report that a cold front is expected to move through the Panhandles Monday evening, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures by Tuesday. While no hazardous weather is currently associated with the frontal passage, cooler air will settle in behind it, ending the short-lived warm stretch.

Overnight lows early this week will trend cooler following the frontal passage, and daytime highs on Tuesday are expected to fall back below Monday’s levels. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the warmer weather while it lasts, particularly for outdoor activities and travel.

The National Weather Service notes that temperatures today and Monday will run above seasonal averages, producing what forecasters describe as comfortable winter conditions for early February.

The mild conditions may be especially beneficial for commuters, outdoor workers, and students across Amarillo and surrounding Panhandle communities before colder air returns midweek.
