St. Louis, Missouri – Light snow is expected to impact parts of eastern Missouri and southwestern Illinois today and this evening, creating slick travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service St. Louis, a weak weather system will move through the region, bringing a dusting to localized one-quarter inch of snow. While snowfall amounts are expected to remain minimal, cold temperatures in the teens and 20s may allow snow to accumulate on untreated surfaces.
Forecasters said snow will develop late this morning, continuing into the early evening hours before tapering off. The primary concern is slick roadways, particularly along major travel corridors including Interstate 64, Interstate 70, Interstate 55, Interstate 255, and U.S. Highway 67.
Communities expected to see impacts include St. Louis, St. Charles, Columbia, Jefferson City, Farmington, Festus, and Belleville. Snowfall rates will generally be light, but brief reductions in visibility are possible during periods of steadier snow.
The National Weather Service emphasized that even small amounts of snow can lead to hazardous travel, especially on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads. Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach destinations if traveling during snow.
For commuters, students, and young workers traveling during the afternoon and early evening, conditions may change quickly as temperatures remain cold enough for snow to stick. Sidewalks and parking lots may also become slippery.
No winter weather advisories were issued with this update, but officials stressed the importance of caution due to the timing of snowfall during active travel periods.
Snow is expected to end later this evening, with no significant additional accumulation anticipated overnight. The National Weather Service will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates if impacts increase.
