South Carolina — Cold air stings faces at daybreak, and light flakes swirl across quiet streets. A Winter Storm Warning and Extreme Cold Warning remain in effect across the Charlotte region and the western Carolinas as a deep Arctic blast lingers this morning.

Temperatures sit in the teens, while wind chills dip near zero. Gusty northwest winds make it feel even colder, especially on exposed roads and bridges. Light snow and flurries continue in spots, mainly along the I-77 corridor. Even minor accumulation creates slick pavement, and black ice remains a serious concern through the morning commute.

As skies brighten later today, snow tapers off. The cold holds firm. Highs struggle to reach the lower 30s, and shaded roads may stay icy all day. Drivers should slow down and watch for sudden slick patches, especially near overpasses and rural roads.

Tonight turns clear and even colder. Lows fall into the single digits and teens across the Piedmont and foothills. Wind chills again drop below zero in exposed areas. Pipes, pets, and people remain at risk. Take time now to drip faucets, bring animals indoors, and check on neighbors.

Monday brings sunshine and slow improvement. Highs climb into the upper 30s, and winds ease. Melting snow during the afternoon could refreeze after sunset, setting up another round of icy spots Monday night.

By Tuesday, clouds increase and temperatures rise into the mid-40s. Meteorologists are tracking a system that may bring rain Tuesday night. As colder air lingers nearby, a brief wintry mix cannot be ruled out early Wednesday morning, especially north of Charlotte.

Looking toward February 7th, temperatures trend closer to normal, but winter is far from finished.

Plan extra travel time, dress in layers, and stay weather-aware.
