California – Headlights fade into a gray wall across the San Joaquin Valley as dense fog settles low over fields and roadways. Visibility drops quickly, and familiar routes feel disorienting as moisture clings to windshields and pavement.

According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for Hanford and surrounding parts of the San Joaquin Valley through midday. Visibility has dropped to near one-tenth of a mile at times, creating hazardous travel conditions for early drivers. Calm winds and saturated air are allowing fog to thicken and linger longer than usual.

Travel impacts are most likely along Route 198, Route 43, and rural roads between Hanford, Lemoore, and Riverdale. Sudden slowdowns are possible, and chain-reaction crashes remain a concern during the morning hours. Drivers should use low-beam headlights, allow extra following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel until fog lifts.

Temperatures stay cool today, with highs near the mid-60s once fog thins and sunshine breaks through. Tonight, patchy dense fog reforms after sunset as temperatures fall into the low 40s. Similar conditions return early Sunday before gradual improvement late morning.

By Monday, the pattern shifts. Skies turn partly sunny, highs climb near 60, and overnight fog becomes more patchy rather than widespread. Tuesday and Wednesday bring steadier clearing trends, with highs rising into the low to mid-60s and better afternoon visibility.

Nationally, winter weather remains extreme east of the Rockies. Nearly half of the Great Lakes are frozen, reinforcing Arctic air and deadly cold across the Midwest and East. That contrast keeps California dry but fog-prone under stable winter conditions.

Until fog clears, slow down, avoid passing, and expect sudden visibility changes. Conditions can improve quickly—but only after the sun gains strength.
