Davenport, Iowa – Below-zero wind chills are making for a cold start across the Quad Cities region today, though temperatures are expected to moderate by this afternoon as conditions turn calmer and drier.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, morning wind chills ranging from 0 to 15 degrees below zero are expected early today, with air temperatures climbing into the upper teens to mid-20s later in the day. Skies are forecast to be partly to mostly sunny, with northwest winds between 10 and 15 mph.

While today remains cold, forecasters say warmer conditions are expected by afternoon, helping reduce cold-related impacts after the morning hours.

Attention then turns to Sunday, when a fast-moving clipper system is expected to bring light snow to parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois. Snow chances range from 30 to 60 percent, with the highest likelihood north and west of the Quad Cities. Accumulations are expected to remain around one inch or less, but even minor snowfall could lead to slippery roads.

Motorists traveling along Interstate 80, Interstate 74, Interstate 280, and U.S. Highway 61 should be prepared for slick spots, particularly on bridges and overpasses during Sunday. Any snow is expected to be light, but timing could affect travel periods.

Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid-20s to mid-30s from north to south, with dry and more seasonable conditions expected across the region.

This update may be especially relevant for weekend travelers, commuters, and outdoor workers, as cold morning wind chills today and light snow Sunday could impact travel and outdoor plans.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve through the weekend.
