Burlington, Vermont – Another cold winter day is underway across northern Vermont, with persistent snow showers over the mountains and chilly temperatures expected to remain in place through the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, snow showers have been persistent over the higher elevations this morning and are expected to continue into the daytime hours. Accumulation is mainly confined to mountainous areas, while valley locations may see occasional flurries or periods of cloud cover.

High temperatures today are forecast to reach only the teens across much of the region, keeping conditions well below seasonal averages. Winds are expected to remain generally light, limiting blowing snow concerns but doing little to improve the cold feel of the day.

Travelers in mountainous terrain should remain alert for snow-covered or slick roadways, especially along routes such as Vermont Route 100, U.S. Route 2, and portions of Interstate 89 near elevation changes. While widespread travel disruptions are not expected, localized snow showers could briefly reduce visibility.

Despite the cold start to the weekend, forecasters note a gradual warming trend is expected heading into the upcoming week. Temperatures are projected to slowly climb over the next several days, bringing a return toward more seasonable winter conditions.

The continued mountain snow showers may be most impactful for outdoor recreation, mountain travel, and early-day commuting, particularly in higher terrain where snowfall remains persistent.

Residents are encouraged to dress appropriately for cold conditions and allow extra travel time when driving through mountain passes. As always, motorists should remain cautious on shaded or elevated roadways where snow and ice may linger.

The National Weather Service advises continuing to monitor forecasts for updates as conditions evolve and the warming trend begins to take shape.
