Michigan wakes up under a quiet but biting winter scene, with light snow drifting across Marquette and wind cutting in from Lake Superior. Headlights catch flakes in the air, and pavement feels slick before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service, light snow showers linger early this morning across northern Upper Michigan. Visibility remains mostly steady for now, but brief reductions are possible during passing snow bands. Winds gusting near 20 mph add an extra bite, pushing wind chills close to zero.

In Marquette, temperatures hover near 16 degrees early today. Snow showers taper through the morning, giving way to partial sunshine. Even so, untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots may remain icy, especially along US-41 and city streets shaded from the sun. Drivers should plan extra time and watch for sudden slick patches.

Cold tightens its grip again tonight as skies clear. Temperatures fall toward single digits, and refreezing becomes a concern where daytime melting occurs. This is prime flash-freeze season, when moisture left behind turns solid quickly after sunset.

Sunday brings a calmer stretch. Sunshine returns, and highs climb into the mid-20s. It will feel manageable, but winter stays in control. Late Sunday night into Monday, attention turns back to snow. The National Weather Service indicates snow showers developing, with the best chance Monday morning. Accumulations look light for now, but bursts of snow could briefly lower visibility.

Looking ahead to the first full week of February, temperatures remain below normal. Snow chances return midweek, then again late week, keeping roads and daily routines on edge. With the Great Lakes heavily iced, lake-enhanced snow remains possible when winds align.

Winter isn’t easing up yet. Keep winter gear handy and stay alert during early-morning and evening travel.
