New Hampshire – Frost coats windshields and crunches under boots this morning as Arctic air tightens its grip across the Granite State. The cold feels immediate and unforgiving. Skin stings within minutes, and even brief trips outside require full winter gear.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through midmorning for much of southern and central New Hampshire, including Manchester. Wind chills as low as 15 below are possible, creating a risk for frostbite and hypothermia on exposed skin.
Early temperatures sit near 3 degrees in Manchester, with a light northwest breeze pushing wind chills well below zero. Roads appear dry, but shaded areas, bridges, and ramps may hide patches of ice. Any melting during daylight hours can refreeze quickly, increasing the risk of slips and early-morning travel issues on I-93, I-293, and local routes.
Conditions improve only slightly later today. Sunshine helps temperatures recover into the upper teens and lower 20s, but the cold remains sharp. Tonight turns clear again, allowing temperatures to drop back toward zero, setting up another bitter start Sunday.
Sunday stays mostly cloudy and cold, with highs in the low 20s and gusty winds keeping wind chills near or below zero at times. By Monday, sunshine returns and highs approach 30, offering modest relief. Even then, cold nights continue into midweek.
Looking ahead, longer-range outlooks point to below-normal precipitation across much of New England next week, but cold air remains in place into the first full week of February. With the Great Lakes nearly half frozen, Arctic air delivery into the Northeast stays efficient, keeping winter hazards in play.
Limit time outdoors this morning, dress in layers, and check on neighbors who may need help staying warm. Heading out early today? How cold did it feel where you live?
