Rockford, IL – Two Rockford men were taken into custody Friday following a weapons investigation that led police to recover a loaded handgun during a search warrant execution on the cityโ€™s west side.

According to the Rockford Police Department, members of the Gang and Narcotics Units executed a search warrant earlier Friday in the 1200 block of Widgren Drive as part of an ongoing investigation involving illegal weapons. During the search, detectives located and recovered a loaded handgun.

Police said two individuals โ€” Tszarian Wright, 21, of Rockford, and Deterrace Dotson, 19, of Rockford โ€” were taken into custody at the scene. Following a review of the case, the Winnebago County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office authorized formal charges against both men. They were subsequently lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

Wright was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, according to police.

Dotson was charged in connection with an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a weapon by a gang member, along with possession of a firearm without a valid FOID, authorities said.

Police noted that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges or arrests are possible as detectives continue reviewing evidence.

As with all criminal cases, authorities emphasized that the charges are merely accusations, and both individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
