A warming trend is expected to develop across southern Missouri early next week after cold temperatures persist through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Springfield, cold conditions will continue through Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures remaining well below normal. Highs this weekend are expected to stay mainly in the 20s and 30s, with overnight lows dipping into the single digits and teens in some locations.

A noticeable shift begins on Monday, when temperatures are forecast to return to near seasonal averages. Daytime highs are expected to reach the mid-40s to near 50 degrees, especially along major travel corridors such as Interstate 44 and US-65. Overnight lows will also moderate, climbing back into the 20s and lower 30s.

The warming trend is forecast to continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing more comfortable daytime conditions across the region. While temperatures improve, forecasters note a 15 to 30 percent chance of precipitation Tuesday into Tuesday night. At this time, precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain, given the warmer air in place, though exact timing and coverage remain uncertain.

No significant winter weather impacts are expected during the warming period, and road conditions should steadily improve following the weekend cold. The transition to milder temperatures may benefit commuters, outdoor workers, and students returning to normal schedules after the cold spell.

Residents are advised to remain cautious during the remainder of the weekend, as cold mornings could still create icy patches on untreated roads and sidewalks. Motorists traveling early Saturday or Sunday along I-44, US-60, and surrounding highways should allow extra time.

Forecasters recommend staying updated with the latest forecasts, especially regarding Tuesday’s rain chances and any lingering cold impacts. Additional updates are available through the National Weather Service Springfield.
