Wakefield, Virginia – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for parts of south-central Virginia as accumulating snow is expected to create hazardous travel conditions through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, 4 to 7 inches of snow are forecast across Brunswick, Mecklenburg, and Greensville counties, with locally higher amounts possible. The warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday until 1 p.m. EST Sunday.

Forecasters warn that travel could become very difficult, particularly during periods of steady snowfall and overnight hours when road treatment is less effective. Snow-covered secondary roads and untreated surfaces are expected to become slick, increasing the risk of accidents and delays.

The National Weather Service urges residents to delay travel if possible. Those who must be on the road should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight, in case they become stranded. Drivers are also encouraged to check current road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.

While snowfall amounts are lower than in some surrounding regions, the duration of the event may allow snow to accumulate steadily, prolonging hazardous conditions into Sunday. Commuters, students, and essential workers should plan for potential disruptions throughout the weekend.

Residents are advised to continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management officials as conditions evolve.
