Oregon wakes to a clear, cold morning in the Rogue Valley as breath hangs briefly in the air. Headlights cut through pockets of haze, and frost clings to windshields across Medford. Conditions feel quiet now, but winter hazards linger close to the surface.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures hover in the upper 30s early, with calm winds allowing patchy fog to form in low-lying areas. Visibility may drop quickly near open fields and along valley roads. Drivers should expect sudden changes, especially before mid-morning.

By afternoon, clouds increase and temperatures rebound into the upper 50s. Roads dry out, and travel improves across Jackson County. To be fair, the calm stretch won’t last long. A weak system approaches late Saturday night, setting up changes by Sunday.

Sunday brings a chance of rain, mainly during the morning and early afternoon. Highs settle near the mid-50s, reinforcing a winter feel. Wet pavement and cooler air increase the risk of slick spots, especially on bridges and shaded stretches of Highway 62 and Interstate 5.

Sunday night turns colder. Patchy fog redevelops after midnight as temperatures dip into the low 30s. That combination raises concerns for localized icing where moisture lingers. Plan extra time if traveling early Monday.

Early next week trends drier but chilly. Monday starts with fog before sunshine returns, pushing highs back into the mid-50s. By Tuesday, temperatures climb sharply into the 60s and even low 80s in spots, a notable February warm-up following the winter chill.

While snow and Arctic cold dominate much of the eastern U.S., Southern Oregon’s winter risk centers on cold mornings, fog, and timing. Conditions can shift fast, and additional alerts remain possible.
