San Francisco, California – Minor coastal flooding is expected along the immediate bayshore of the San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay, and Monterey Bay during periods of high tide through Sunday, prompting a Coastal Flood Advisory from the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service Bay Area office, up to 1.4 feet of inundation is possible in low-lying, normally dry areas during the highest tides of the day. Flooding is expected to impact shoreline roads, parking lots, parks, and pedestrian paths, though only isolated road closures are anticipated.

The highest tide at San Francisco occurred at 8:34 a.m., though timing can vary by up to 90 minutes earlier or later across the Pacific Coast and San Francisco Bay. Similar impacts are possible during subsequent high tides through Sunday afternoon, especially in areas with poor drainage or ongoing shoreline vulnerability.

Locations most susceptible include bayside communities and travel corridors near the water, including roadways adjacent to U.S. Highway 101, Interstate 880, Interstate 80, and State Route 1, as well as surface streets along the Embarcadero and other waterfront routes. Drivers may encounter shallow flooding that can stall vehicles or obscure roadway hazards.

The National Weather Service advises residents and commuters to avoid flood-prone areas, obey barricades, and never drive through flooded roadways. Boaters are urged to use longer dock lines, ensure adequate keel clearance, and closely monitor tide forecasts and currents.

While the flooding threat is categorized as minor, repeated tidal inundation can still disrupt travel and damage property in vulnerable locations. The advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday through 12 p.m. Sunday, covering bayshore locations of the San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay, and Monterey Bay.

Officials emphasize that conditions may change with additional weather influences, and residents should continue to monitor official forecasts and alerts. Updated tide and coastal information is available through the National Weather Service and NOAA Weather Radio.
