Louisiana – Cold air presses in along the Gulf Coast this morning, sharpening the air and rattling palm fronds across southwest Louisiana. Jackets feel necessary again, and shaded pavement cools fast before sunrise. The chill arrives as rivers already run high, creating a rare winter double threat for the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from early Saturday through Sunday morning. Wind chills may drop as low as the lower teens across southwest and south-central Louisiana and into southeast Texas. Exposed skin can feel the effects quickly during early-morning hours.

At the same time, a Flood Warning continues along the Sabine River near Deweyville. River levels are expected to crest near flood stage Saturday, producing minor lowland flooding through early Sunday. Residents near the river should monitor water levels closely and avoid flooded roadways.

Today stays mostly cloudy, with highs reaching the low 50s. Winds increase at times, adding an extra bite. Saturday turns sunny but noticeably colder, with highs near 40 and a cold start to the morning. Clear skies Saturday night allow temperatures to fall into the low 20s, increasing freeze risk for sensitive plants and exposed pipes.

Sunday brings improvement. Sunshine returns and temperatures rebound into the upper 40s. A stronger warmup follows early next week. Monday climbs into the low 60s, and by Tuesday, highs push toward the upper 60s with increasing clouds and rain chances late.

This pattern reflects a broader Arctic push across the southern U.S., followed by a sharp February warmup. Dress in layers, protect pets and pipes, and stay alert near waterways. Conditions may shift quickly over the next few days.
